Jihadists
Jihadists are individuals or groups who interpret Islamic teachings as a call to engage in violence to defend or expand their understanding of their faith. The term "jihad" means "struggle" and can refer to personal spiritual growth or, in some cases, armed conflict. However, jihadists specifically use the concept to justify acts of terrorism or armed rebellion, often targeting governments or civilians they oppose. Their actions are widely condemned by the majority of Muslims worldwide, who view such violence as a misinterpretation of Islamic principles.
