
Jetavanaramaya
Jetavanaramaya is a historic Buddhist monastery in Sri Lanka, renowned for its impressive architecture and size. Built in the 3rd century CE during King Mahasena’s reign, it served as a major religious center and a place for monks to study and meditate. Its massive stupa (a dome-shaped structure) is one of the tallest ancient stone structures in the world, symbolizing Buddhist devotion and engineering skill. The complex includes terraces, monks’ residences, and sculptures, reflecting the spiritual and cultural importance of Buddhism in Sri Lanka’s history. Today, it stands as an archaeological monument and a symbol of Sri Lanka’s rich heritage.
