Jasmine Revolution
The Jasmine Revolution refers to the uprising in Tunisia that began in December 2010 and led to the toppling of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011. Sparked by widespread anger over unemployment, government corruption, and lack of political freedoms, the protestors demonstrated peacefully, inspired by the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi, a street vendor. This revolution marked the start of the Arab Spring, inspiring similar movements across the Middle East and North Africa. It emphasized the demand for democracy and social justice, ultimately leading to Tunisia's first democratic elections and significant political changes in the region.
