Japan Self-Defense Forces
The Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) is Japan's military organization, established in 1954. Its primary purpose is to defend the country and maintain peace. Given Japan's post-World War II constitution, which renounces war, the JSDF functions under a defensive strategy, focusing on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, as well as regional security cooperation. The JSDF is composed of three branches: the Ground Self-Defense Force (army), the Maritime Self-Defense Force (navy), and the Air Self-Defense Force (air force). It plays a critical role in national security amid evolving regional threats and international commitments.
