Japan Railway Group

The Japan Railway Group, known as JR Group, is a collection of private companies that operate most of Japan’s train services, including regional, commuter, and high-speed bullet trains (Shinkansen). Originally part of the government-owned Japanese National Railways (JNR), the group was privatized in 1987 to improve efficiency and service quality. Today, JR Group manages extensive rail networks, connecting cities and regions across Japan, and plays a vital role in the country’s transportation infrastructure. Each JR company serves specific geographic areas, working together to provide reliable, fast, and convenient train travel throughout Japan.
