Jan Żabiński
Jan Żabiński was a Polish zoologist and the director of the Warsaw Zoo during World War II. Along with his wife, Antonina, he played a crucial role in saving the lives of numerous Jews from the Holocaust. Using the zoo as a cover, they hid people in animal enclosures and their home. Their efforts contributed to the survival of about 300 individuals. After the war, Żabiński’s bravery and humanitarian actions were recognized, and he has since been honored as a Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem for his courageous acts during a dark period in history.
