Jammu and Kashmir (historical context)
Jammu and Kashmir is a region in northern India with a complex history marked by diverse cultures, religions, and geopolitical tensions. Historically, it was a princely state before 1947, when British India was partitioned into India and Pakistan. The princely ruler chose to join India, leading to conflict with Pakistan and ongoing disputes over borders. Over the years, it has seen military conflicts, insurgency, and political changes. In 2019, India reorganized the region into two separate territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh—aiming to improve governance, but the area remains central to regional security and sovereignty issues.
