James S. McDonnell

James S. McDonnell was an influential American aerospace pioneer and businessman best known as the founder of McDonnell Aircraft Corporation, which later merged with Douglas Aircraft Company to form McDonnell Douglas. His company played a key role in developing military aircraft, including the F-4 Phantom II. McDonnell was recognized for his innovative approach to aviation and his contributions to aerospace technology. Beyond his business achievements, he was also involved in philanthropy and supported scientific research, most notably through the establishment of the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis.
