Jamaican Morant Bay Rebellion

The Morant Bay Rebellion of 1865 was a protest in Jamaica led by Paul Bogle, a Baptist deacon. It arose from widespread anger over economic hardship, social injustice, and political inequality faced by Black Jamaicans under colonial rule. The rebellion began with a peaceful march but turned violent when authorities responded with brutal force, executing many rebels. The government then imposed martial law, involving harsh repression. The uprising highlighted deep-rooted issues of racial discrimination and colonial misrule, leading to significant political changes in Jamaica's governance structure and advancing the cause of Black rights.
