Jacobite armies
The Jacobite armies were groups of supporters striving to restore the House of Stuart to the British throne after they lost power in 1688. They primarily consisted of Scottish Highlands clans, English loyalists, and others sympathetic to the Stuarts’ claim. These armies fought in key conflicts, such as the Jacobite risings of 1715 and 1745, aiming to overthrow the ruling Hanoverian monarchy. Their efforts ended with battles like Culloden in 1746, ultimately failing to reclaim the throne. The Jacobites are remembered for their passionate loyalty and their impact on Britain's political and cultural history.
