Itzcoatl

Itzcoatl, which means "Obsidian Serpent," was a significant leader of the Mexica people (commonly known as the Aztecs) during the early 15th century. He ruled from 1427 to 1440 and is credited with establishing the Aztec Empire by forming key alliances, notably with the city-state of Tlacopan and other tribes against a common enemy. Itzcoatl also initiated the expansion of territory and influence through military conquests. His reign marked a pivotal shift in Aztec society, including the establishment of a more centralized power and the promotion of cultural and religious practices that would define the empire.
