Itchiness
Itchiness is a sensation that prompts a desire to scratch, often caused by irritation or stimulation of nerve endings in the skin. This can result from various factors such as dry skin, allergic reactions, insect bites, infections, or skin conditions like eczema. When the skin detects an irritant, it sends signals through nerve fibers to the brain, creating the feeling of itch. Scratching temporarily relieves the sensation by disrupting these signals, but overdoing it can worsen irritation. Addressing the underlying cause and keeping the skin moist and protected usually helps reduce itching.
