Italian Civil War

The Italian Civil War, occurring from 1943 to 1945, was a conflict between Italian partisans (resistance fighters) and fascist or pro-fascist forces allied with Nazi Germany. After Italy surrendered to the Allies in 1943, Italy was divided: the north remained loyal to Mussolini’s fascist regime, while the south supported the Allies. The resistance conducted guerrilla warfare against fascist forces, aiming to overthrow fascism and restore democracy. This internal struggle significantly contributed to Italy's liberation from fascist rule, ending with the defeat of fascist forces and the establishment of a new democratic republic.
