Italian antifascism

Italian antifascism refers to opposition to Benito Mussolini’s Fascist regime (1920s-1940s), which centralized power, suppressed dissent, and promoted authoritarian nationalism. Antifascists in Italy aimed to preserve democracy, civil liberties, and opposition to totalitarian rule. They included a diverse group: liberals, socialists, communists, and others who resisted Fascist policies through protests, underground activities, and preserving democratic ideals. After WWII, antifascism became a foundation for Italy’s democratic constitution, symbolizing resistance against tyranny and safeguarding human rights.
