Islamic messianism
Islamic messianism refers to beliefs within Islam concerning a future savior figure known as the Mahdi, who is expected to emerge before the Day of Judgment. The Mahdi will restore justice, establish a universal Islamic governance, and lead believers in a final battle against evil. Different Islamic traditions interpret the Mahdi’s role and identity in various ways. In Shia Islam, he is seen as the twelfth Imam, while in Sunni Islam, interpretations are more varied. This belief reflects hopes for societal renewal and divine intervention in times of turmoil.
