Ischemic attack
An ischemic attack, commonly called a transient ischemic attack (TIA), occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is temporarily blocked, usually by a blood clot or debris. This interruption reduces oxygen and nutrients, causing short-term neurological symptoms like weakness, numbness, or trouble speaking. Symptoms typically last from a few minutes to a few hours and resolve completely within 24 hours. While symptoms fade, a TIA signals a higher risk of future strokes. It’s a serious warning sign that requires prompt medical attention to investigate and prevent potential brain damage or stroke.
