Iron Overload Syndrome

Iron Overload Syndrome, also known as hemochromatosis, is a condition where the body absorbs and stores too much iron from food. Excess iron deposits in organs like the liver, heart, and pancreas, which can cause damage over time. Symptoms may include fatigue, joint pain, and weight loss, but some people remain asymptomatic initially. It’s often inherited but can also result from other conditions or repeated blood transfusions. Treatment typically involves regularly removing blood (phlebotomy) to reduce iron levels and prevent organ damage. Early diagnosis and management are key to avoiding serious health complications.
