Irish political system

Ireland's political system is a parliamentary democracy with a president as head of state and a prime minister (Taoiseach) as head of government. The Parliament (Oireachtas) has two houses: Dáil Éireann (lower house) elected by citizens, responsible for making laws, and Seanad Éireann (upper house), which reviews legislation. Political power generally lies with the government led by the Taoiseach, formed by the party or coalition with the most Dáil seats. The president has a mainly ceremonial role. Elections, political parties, and courts maintain democratic governance and uphold constitutional laws.
