Irish Monarchy
Ireland has not had a monarchy since gaining independence from Britain in 1922, when it became a republic. Historically, Ireland was ruled by Gaelic kings and later by English and British monarchs. From the 12th century onward, parts of Ireland were under English control, with some Irish kings resisting or collaborating. The entire island was centrally ruled by the British monarchy until independence. Today, Ireland is a republic with no monarchy, but the concept remains a part of its history, influencing cultural identity and historical narratives.
