Irish Land Acts
The Irish Land Acts were a series of laws enacted mainly between 1870 and the early 20th century aimed at resolving landownership issues in Ireland. They shifted land from absentee landlords to tenants, promoting fairer rent arrangements and enabling tenants to purchase land. The acts gradually dismantled the landlord system, empowering Irish tenant farmers and reducing foreign or aristocratic control over land. This process helped foster Irish nationalism and contributed to land reform, making land more accessible and secure for ordinary Irish farmers.
