Iran Constitutional Revolution
The Iran Constitutional Revolution (1905-1911) was a movement that aimed to limit the powerful monarchy and establish a constitution, creating a parliamentary system. It was driven by growing dissatisfaction with autocratic rule, corruption, and foreign influence, especially from Russia and Britain. Iranian intellectuals, religious leaders, and citizens rallied for legal reforms, civil rights, and national sovereignty. The revolution resulted in the 1906 Constitution, which established freestanding laws, a parliament (Majles), and protections for citizens. Although conflicts persisted, it marked a significant step towards modern political institutions and increased public participation in Iran’s governance.
