Ionian Revolt
The Ionian Revolt (499-493 BCE) was a rebellion by Greek city-states in Asia Minor against Persian rule. Driven by discontent over heavy taxation and lack of autonomy, the Ionian cities sought help from mainland Greece. They received support from Athens and Eretria, which fueled the conflict. Although the revolt initially inspired other Greek regions, it ultimately failed, leading to a harsh Persian response. The revolt is significant as it marked the beginning of widespread Greek resistance against Persia, eventually culminating in the famous Greco-Persian Wars.
