International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea
The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, often referred to as the COLREGs, are guidelines established to ensure safe navigation on the world's oceans. They outline responsibilities for vessels to avoid collisions, including rules on which ship has the right of way, signals for communication, and safe conduct in various situations (daytime, nighttime, or in restricted visibility). The COLREGs aim to promote safe travel by creating a common understanding of navigational behavior among all mariners, thereby reducing the risk of accidents at sea.
