International Refugee Organization (IRO)
The International Refugee Organization (IRO) was a United Nations agency established in 1946 to help millions of Europeans displaced by World War II. Its primary goal was to provide protection, aid, and resettlement opportunities to refugees, assisting them in rebuilding their lives. The IRO coordinated international efforts to deliver food, medical care, and temporary shelter, and worked to find permanent solutions such as integration or relocation to new countries. It operated until 1952, when its responsibilities were transferred to other organizations like the UNHCR, continuing the global effort to support displaced persons.
