International LIGO-Virgo Collaboration
The International LIGO-Virgo Collaboration (ILC) is a global partnership of scientists who work together to detect and study gravitational waves—ripples in space-time caused by massive cosmic events, like merging black holes or neutron stars. LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) and Virgo are advanced detectors located in the United States and Italy, respectively. By sharing data and research, the collaboration helps improve our understanding of the universe and the fundamental laws of physics, opening new avenues in astrophysics and providing insights into the most violent phenomena in the cosmos.
