Inhalational anthrax
Inhalational anthrax is a serious bacterial infection caused by Bacillus anthracis spores that become airborne and inhaled into the lungs. If inhaled, these spores can activate and produce toxins that damage lung tissue and other organs, leading to severe respiratory issues and potentially death if not treated promptly. The infection is rare but can occur through exposure to contaminated animal products or in bioterrorism scenarios. Symptoms initially resemble the flu, including fever, cough, and fatigue, but can quickly worsen to difficulty breathing and shock. Early antibiotic treatment is critical for effective recovery.
