Infective Endocarditis

Infective endocarditis is an infection of the inner lining of the heart chambers and valves, caused by bacteria or other germs entering the bloodstream. These germs can stick to damaged or artificial heart valves, leading to inflammation and the formation of small, often dangerous, clumps called vegetations. Symptoms may include fever, chills, fatigue, and muscle aches. It often requires prompt treatment with antibiotics and sometimes surgery. The condition can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and managed early, as it can damage heart tissue, affect how the heart works, and lead to serious complications like stroke or organ damage.
