Infante D. Henrique, also known as Prince Henry the Navigator, was a Portuguese royal in the 15th century who greatly contributed to the Age of Discoveries. Although he never sailed himself, he supported and sponsored explorations along the West African coast, encouraging advances in navigation, mapmaking, and shipbuilding. His efforts helped Portugal establish sea routes and colonies, opening new trade opportunities and expanding European knowledge of Africa and beyond. Prince Henry's leadership and patronage were vital in Portugal’s emergence as a major maritime power during the Age of Exploration.
