Indonesian independence movement
The Indonesian independence movement was a struggle to end Dutch colonial rule and establish a sovereign nation. After centuries of Dutch control, World War II created opportunities for change, and Indonesia declared independence in 1945. However, the Dutch initially resisted, leading to a four-year conflict. International pressure and diplomatic efforts eventually forced the Dutch to recognize Indonesia's independence in 1949. The movement was driven by national identity, anti-colonial sentiments, and the desire for self-determination, uniting diverse groups across the archipelago in their fight for autonomy and sovereignty.
