Indigenous Australian History
Indigenous Australian history spans over 65,000 years, making it one of the world's oldest living cultures. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples developed rich traditions, languages, and strong connections to the land. In 1788, British colonization drastically impacted their societies, leading to dispossession, violence, and significant disruption. Despite these challenges, Indigenous Australians have maintained cultural practices, resilience, and a deep spiritual relationship with the land. In recent decades, there has been a growing recognition of their rights, culture, and contributions, fostering dialogue and reconciliation efforts in Australian society.
