Indian Constituent Assembly
The Indian Constituent Assembly was a body of elected representatives responsible for drafting India's Constitution, which is the supreme law governing the country. Formed in 1946, it brought together leaders from diverse regions and communities to create a framework for democracy, rights, and governance. The assembly deliberated for about three years, addressing issues like fundamental rights, parliamentary structure, and federalism. Its work culminated in the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949, which officially came into effect on January 26, 1950. The assembly was instrumental in shaping India's identity as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.
