Indian caste system

The Indian caste system is a social hierarchy rooted in historical and religious traditions, traditionally dividing society into four main groups: Brahmins (priests and scholars), Kshatriyas (warriors and rulers), Vaishyas (traders and farmers), and Shudras (laborers). Over time, many sub-castes emerged, and social status often correlated with birth rather than individual merit, leading to systemic inequalities. Though officially abolished in India, caste distinctions continue to influence social interactions, marriage, and economic opportunities, shaping the country's social fabric in complex ways.
