In-group Bias

In-group bias is the tendency to favor and prioritize members of one’s own group over outsiders. This can influence attitudes, decisions, and behaviors, often leading people to see their group more positively and others more critically. It stems from a natural desire for belonging and identity, but can also contribute to unfairness and discrimination. Recognizing this bias helps us understand why people might favor their friends, family, or social groups and why conflicts or prejudice can occur between different groups. Being aware of in-group bias enables us to work towards more equitable and inclusive interactions.
