Imperial German Navy

The Imperial German Navy was Germany’s naval force from 1871 to 1918, established to strengthen national security and project power abroad. It focused on building a modern fleet, including battleships and submarines, to compete with other major powers like Britain. The navy played a significant role in naval strategies during World War I, especially in challenging British dominance at sea. Its development reflected Germany’s ambitions for global influence and military strength, but after Germany's defeat in 1918, the navy was disbanded and limited by the Treaty of Versailles.
