Illinois Bell
Illinois Bell was the primary telephone service provider for much of Illinois, operating as part of the larger AT&T company. It was responsible for installing and maintaining telephone lines, billing customers, and ensuring phone service worked reliably. In 1984, as part of the breakup of the Bell System, Illinois Bell was split into local companies, now known as Ameritech Illinois. Today, it functions as a regional subsidiary providing telecommunications services, including landline and internet, under the AT&T brand. Essentially, Illinois Bell was a key player in establishing and managing telecommunications infrastructure in Illinois for many decades.
