IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta)
IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta) is a quality designation used in the European Union to identify products that have a strong link to a specific geographic area. It ensures that the product is at least partially produced or processed in that region, highlighting its unique local qualities and traditions. Unlike Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), which requires all production steps to occur in the area, IGP allows for some manufacturing outside the region as long as it maintains traditional methods and characteristics. This label helps consumers recognize authentic regional products and supports local producers by safeguarding regional culinary heritage.
