Ignition Interlock Device
An Ignition Interlock Device (IID) is a breathalyzer installed in a vehicle that measures a driver's blood alcohol content (BAC) before enabling the engine to start. If the driver breathes into the device and their BAC is above a predetermined limit, the vehicle will not start. IIDs are often used as part of legal consequences for DUI offenses, helping to prevent intoxicated individuals from driving. They require regular calibration and sometimes have additional features, such as recording data and requiring rolling tests while driving to ensure the driver remains sober during the trip.
