IgE-mediated Reactions

IgE-mediated reactions are allergic responses where the immune system overreacts to normally harmless substances like pollen, pet dander, or certain foods. When exposed, the immune system produces a protein called Immunoglobulin E (IgE) that recognizes the allergen. This triggers the release of chemicals like histamine, leading to symptoms such as sneezing, hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing. These reactions can happen quickly and vary in severity, from mild discomfort to life-threatening anaphylaxis. They represent a type of allergy where the immune system's response is specifically driven by IgE antibodies.
