IgE-mediated allergies

IgE-mediated allergies occur when the immune system mistakenly identifies a normally harmless substance, like pollen or pet dander, as a threat. In response, it produces specific antibodies called IgE. Upon subsequent exposure, these IgE antibodies trigger the release of chemicals like histamine, causing allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing. This process happens quickly and can range from mild to severe. Managing these allergies often involves avoiding triggers and using medications like antihistamines or epinephrine for severe reactions.
