Hypertensive heart disease
Hypertensive heart disease refers to heart problems caused by high blood pressure over time. Elevated blood pressure forces the heart to work harder to pump blood, which can lead to thickening of the heart muscle, especially the left ventricle. This thickening may impair the heart's ability to pump efficiently and can cause heart failure if untreated. Additionally, high blood pressure increases the risk of other heart issues, such as irregular rhythms or coronary artery disease. Managing blood pressure through lifestyle changes and medication helps prevent or slow the progression of hypertensive heart disease.
