Hydrotropes

Hydrotropes are substances that enhance the solubility of hydrophobic (water-repelling) compounds in water. They work by forming interactions with these less soluble molecules, helping them disperse evenly in aqueous solutions. Unlike surfactants, which produce foam and form micelles, hydrotropes typically improve solubility without significant foaming or the formation of organized structures. They are often used in cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, and chemical processes to dissolve stubborn compounds, making them easier to handle and remove. Essentially, hydrotropes act as facilitators, enabling difficult-to-dissolve substances to mix more readily with water.
