Hussitism

Hussitism was a religious and political movement in 15th-century Bohemia, inspired by the teachings of Jan Hus, a reformist priest who criticized corruption and advocated for church reforms. The movement sought greater spiritual authority for common people, rejected certain church practices, and called for moral renewal. It led to conflicts with the Catholic Church and the Habsburg monarchy, resulting in the Hussite Wars (1419–1434). Hussitism played a key role in shaping Czech national identity and contributed to the broader Protestant Reformation, emphasizing faith, scripture, and social justice over church hierarchy and rituals.
