Humbaba, also known as Hu-Ma-Ba, is a mythological figure from ancient Mesopotamian literature, notably the Epic of Gilgamesh. He is depicted as a formidable guardian spirit of the Cedar Forest, appointed by the gods to protect its sacred trees. Humbaba possesses immense strength, intimidating appearance, and often a fearsome reputation, representing natural and divine forces that challenge human endeavors. In the epic, Gilgamesh and his companion Enkidu confront Humbaba to gain glory, highlighting themes of heroism, mortality, and the relationship between humans and the divine.
