Human Cloning
Human cloning is the process of creating a new individual with the same genetic material as an existing person. This involves copying an individual’s DNA to produce a genetically identical organism. Scientifically, it often uses a technique called somatic cell nuclear transfer, where the nucleus from a donor cell is inserted into an egg cell that has had its nucleus removed, prompting it to develop into an embryo. Although cloning has been successful with animals like Dolly the sheep, human cloning raises significant ethical, legal, and social concerns, and it remains a controversial area of research worldwide.
