Hukbalahap
Hukbalahap, short for Hukbo ng Bayan Laban sa Hapon (People's Army Against the Japanese), was a Filipino communist resistance movement formed during World War II to fight Japanese occupation. Originally consisting of peasants and farmers, they aimed to defend their communities and gained military strength. After the war, they shifted focus to advocating for land reforms and social justice, leading to conflicts with the Philippine government. Over time, the Hukbalahap evolved into the core of the Communist Party of the Philippines’ armed wing, influencing ongoing insurgency and political struggles in the country.
