Hufnagel Valve
The Hufnagel Valve is a device used in cardiac surgery to support the closure of the aortic valve and prevent backflow of blood into the heart. It functions as a one-way check valve, allowing blood to flow from the heart into the aorta during systole (heart contraction) but preventing it from returning during diastole (heart relaxation). Typically implanted externally onto the aortic root or used in prosthetic valves, it ensures proper blood flow direction, improves circulation efficiency, and reduces the workload on the heart, especially in patients with aortic valve issues or during certain surgical procedures.
