Hospital-acquired pneumonia

Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) is a lung infection that develops in patients during or shortly after their hospital stay, particularly over 48 hours after admission. Unlike regular pneumonia, which can occur outside of healthcare settings, HAP often involves more resistant bacteria due to the hospital environment. This type of pneumonia can be serious, especially for patients with weakened immune systems or other underlying health conditions. Symptoms may include cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and other supportive care, but the infection can complicate recovery for hospitalized patients.
