Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA)
The Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA) is a method used by doctors and researchers to evaluate how well the body is maintaining normal blood sugar and insulin levels. It helps to estimate insulin resistance (when the body has trouble using insulin effectively) and pancreatic beta-cell function (how well the pancreas produces insulin). HOMA uses simple blood test results for fasting glucose and insulin levels to provide insights into metabolic health, often used in research and clinical settings to identify risk for conditions like diabetes and monitor treatment progress.
