Holland’s vocational choice theory
Holland’s vocational choice theory suggests that people tend to select careers that match their personality types. He identified six main types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional (RIASEC). Each type reflects a set of interests, preferences, and work environments. For example, someone who enjoys hands-on activities might prefer realistic jobs, while someone who likes helping others might choose social careers. According to Holland, choosing a career aligned with your personality enhances job satisfaction and success. The theory emphasizes self-awareness and the idea that compatibility between personality and work environment is key to career fulfillment.
