Hohenstaufen Dynasty

The Hohenstaufen Dynasty was a prominent family that ruled German and Italian territories from the 12th to the 13th centuries. Key figures included Frederick I, known as Barbarossa, and his grandson Frederick II. The Hohenstaufens aimed to strengthen imperial power in the Holy Roman Empire while expanding influence in Italy. Their reign was marked by significant political and cultural developments but also conflicts with the Papacy and internal rivals. The dynasty ultimately declined due to these struggles, leading to the fragmentation of power in the region and the end of their direct rule after the Battle of Benevento in 1266.
